Fresh Alpine Air: The Villanders/Villandro Meadow
Villanders/Villandro is a paradise for hikers. The Villanders/Villandro Meadow is Europe's second-largest high-altitude meadow. With its countless hiking trails and paths leading to the summits, Alpine enthusiasts can revel in its unspoiled landscapes and excellent look-out points from 2,000 meters above sea-level and higher. Numerous Alpine refuges, huts, and rustic inns where you can stop for a hearty snack or a refreshment are strung like pearls along the pathways.
In the mid-altitude mountains, all around the village of Villanders/Villandro, idyllic trails – e.g., the Chestnut Tree Path – will lead you through verdant forests to hamlets, country manors, and up to the old silver mine. You can stop and enjoy a hearty bite and a glass of wine in the authentic "Törggele" inns along the way.
Bicyclists, too, are guaranteed unsurpassed bicycling fun. The bike paths will take you along the Eisack River. More-practiced bikers will have no difficulty taking their mountainbikes over forest trails and hiking paths to reach the highest reaches of the Villanders/Villandro Meadow.
