A Sunny Outlook for a Fantastic Vacation
The sunny, southerly mid-altitude location with its majestic chestnut trees and the wonderful view of the mighty Geisler was reason enough for the bishops of Brixen/Bressanone to establish their summer residence here in 1577. In the immediate vicinity of the Velthurns Castle, you'll find a picturesque and easily-reached village which – together with its subdivisions of Schrambach / San Pietro Mezzomonte, Schnauders/Snodres, Tschiffnon/Giovignano, Garn/Caerna, and Untrum – offers many an astonishingly interesting pleasurable experience, including boundless hiking trails, "Törggelen" at numerous rustic inns along the way, or an outdoor swimming pool right in the middle of this magnificent mid-altitude landscape.
All Year Round: A Hiker's Paradise
The Keschtnweg, The Kühberg Meadow and the Latzfons Meadow with their Alpine huts featuring year-round hospitality, the Radl Lake Alpine hut, and the summit of the Königsanger (at an altitude of 2,436 meters above sea-level.) There are countless hiking trails to choose from here – whether you want to stroll through the chestnut orchards and vineyards around Feldthurns/Velturno, would like to explore the river lowlands near Schrambach / San Pietro Mezzomonte, or wish to launch an expedition to the heights of the Sarentine Alps. The Villanders/Villandro Alpine Meadow and the Latzfons Meadow as well as the neighboring villages of Barbian/Barbiano and Villanders/Villandro are all within easy reach.
The Sun-Drenched Slopes of Feldthurns/Velturno: History & Culture
Die The excavations in the Tanzgasse revealed it: The sun-drenched locality of Feldthurns/Velturno drew settlers here 5,000 years before Christ. And the bishops of Brixen/Bressanone chose the village with its wonderful vistas as their summer residence in the year 1577.
Today, the village totally subscribes to the motto that "Mother Nature knows best." The range of vacation activities you can choose in this land of chestnuts, vineyards, and "Törggelen" need not fear comparison. Once the summer residence of the Bressanone bishop-princes, this elegant complex was completely renovated from 1979-83.
Guided tours
from 1st March to 30 November at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m., in July and August tours are also given at 4.30 p.m. Closed Mondays. Visits for groups also available at other times. Cost of entry: adults € 3,00, children, young people, students up to 18 years € 1,50, groups of 15 persons or more € 2,00, family card € 8,00.
